The Early Years
Kight Home Center has long had the philosophy of helping our customers help themselves. Since Robert F. Bernhardt founded Kight Lumber in 1957, our family-owned company has grown to become a leader by providing excellent quality building and decorating materials for people of our area.

Our Company History…
 1957 – Robert “Bob” Bernhardt founded Kight Lumber Company in Newburgh
 1961 – Kight Kitchen Interiors was opened.
 1963 – Kight purchased property in Evansville for expansion and a rail dropp-off point for lumber
 1980s – Bernhardt turns operations over to sons, Kent and Tom
 1982 – Evansville location was opened
 1985 – Rockport location was opened
 1998 – Kight Custom Millwork & Laminate and the Owensboro location was opened
 2005 – Kight Home Center is acquired by the Carter Lumber Company
 2009 – Newburgh location was consolidated into the Evansville location

Kight now has three stores in Evansville, Owensboro and Rockport, a Kitchen Interiors shop, a Custom Millwork & Laminate Shop and a Door Shop. Kight Home Center has built a reputation based on service, quality, selection and value. Today that reputation remains strong by Kight Home Center's dedication to its customers, as well as dedication to the community.
